“It takes a village to raise a child.”
Support from families and the larger community is vital to the Horizons program. Horizons views families as important partners in the educational process. This partnership begins with families being invited to learn about and meet others involved with the program at an orientation session and a back-to-school night. Throughout the summer, families are invited to come and volunteer in the classrooms and to read to the classes or teach a lesson. Horizons keeps in touch with families and students throughout the year as well.
Enthusiastic community volunteers are also engaged each summer to help with a range of tasks in the classrooms. Horizons is fortunate to have an active and committed Board of Directors comprised of community volunteers. Horizons also receives support from the community in terms of in-kind donations (supplies and services).
